I realize I love waking up seeing my husband slumbering next me. . .even though I think he takes up more than his share of the bed and I’m pretty sure my REM sleep is decreased because of him.

Where Was my Head?
This morning I went to work having left my pager at home. I did, however, remember to take along my lip gloss that matched my blush and outfit. Where was my head? I felt so terrible and irresponsible all day, missing pages from my resident and the nurses. It’s worse than leaving your driver’s license at home which I’m guilty from time to time. Well, I don’t plan to go anywhere without that pager again, it’s as good as glued to my hip.

This Cursed Monday!
Bad things happen in threesomes, I am convinced. . .
1. I was stuck in a traffic jam for 3 hours on my 15 minute commute home!
2. Hiro pooped on the carpet!? Okay, so he's 98% housetrained.
3. Found out I can't attend the resident Christmas party because I'm on call that evening.
I am still fuming. . .

Cute, cute, way too cute!!
"If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands. *clap, clap* If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands. . ."
Okay, but if you're not happy, forget the song and claps, skip on over to www.cuteoverload.com. I'm on call tomorrow, :( but I was cheered up once I saw these pictures.

Ahhh, seeing pictures of cats make me really really want one. I'd love to have the meow of a cat around the house again, their small paws making biscuits on my stomach and their purring putting me to sleep. I told hubby tonight that as soon as we buy a house I'm getting a cat again.

A Look-Back on July
So here’s what’s been going with me. I finished my first month of wards medicine. It’s been a hard month. The excitement and general love of my job did sustain me, though. That doesn’t mean I didn’t complain to hubby quite a bit. Being on call and without sleep for 24 hours is the hardest because I find myself barely able to function or care at the end. By the time I reach home at end of call, I all but collapse and feel like I have the flu every time. It turns out my fellow interns had a tough time of it, too. Many of us have been working over 80 hours per week, which is the limit set by the ACGME. We had a meeting with the program director and she promptly decided to change our schedule. For reasons that are political, we are still having the 30-hour calls Q 5 days but on the days we are not on call, we can go home early, so instead of 12-hour work days on non-call days, it’ll be more manageable at 8-10 hour days.
Now, I’m on cardiology for the month of August. The cardiologists are great, quick to teach and easy-going. I’m enjoying it, so far. This month is suppose to be our “break” with no calls and every weekend off! The other intern who’s on this rotation with me is 10 weeks pregnant. It was an unexpected pregnancy and she’s dealing with nausea and fatigue. I really do sympathize with her. What surprises me, no, astounds me, is that she only plans to take 1 month off for her baby so she doesn’t have to be behind schedule and extend her residency. Yes, it can be done, but as for me, I would want to be solely mommy for a longer time.
On the flipside, I’m experimenting with wearing more fun yet professional clothes to work. I wore this black capri pants with high-heeled sandals on Friday. I actually did okay with walking on high heels all day! The cardiologist we were working with took one look at my shoes and said “hmm, fancy.” He was also the one commented on my “Tiffany” bracelet and “Coach” handbag. Yes, I had on a bracelet and carried a handbag but they were no where close to their descriptors. Hmm, try Target’s and Kohl’s. He was just teasing, I know. No, I’m not the only doctor that wears high heels in the hospital, and yes, this cardiologist likes to tease everyone.
All that aside, I have wanted to get a nice, presentable leather handbag for a long time. I have pretty much given up on having a Louis Vuitton bag. Nor am I aiming for a Coach or Chanel, just something nicer and pricier than what I’m use to. Hubby has promised to venture the mall with me tomorrow and look for a handbag for me. That is a big concession on his part, seeing he doesn’t like to go to the mall for anything!
Other news, Kitty is sick. She’s been vomiting, not eating, and losing weight. I took her to the vet and it turns out she has hyperthyroidism which means she’s at least 10 years old. We are giving her medicine twice a day for the hyperthyroidism. She has stopped vomiting and is eating more. I have given up on the high-quality hard-to-find cat food for her because she would rather starve than eat her old food. But she loves canned Friskies and Fancy Feast from the supermarket which is half the price of her old food anyways!
And finally, a shout out to hubby. He’s simply been great this past month. What would I have done without his support, home-cooked meals, foot messages, evening walks, etc?

Nikenpoop and TV
I have a new favorite word, nikenpoop. Doesn't it sound funny?? I heard it on TV today. The meaning of nikenpoop according to www.urbandictionary.com is "a word used to describe someone in a bad way. If they are being annoying or dumb, you call them a ninkenpoop."
Thanks to TV, nikenpoop is now in my vocabulary! TV can be entertaining in more than one way! I know friends that have renounced TV for the simpler or less trashy life, perhpas. I, for one, am a TV-lover. These days especially, I have been watching a lot of TV. My first two years of medical school, I lived without one, and will probably do so again out of necessity once internship starts. But for now, I love TV. It is a companion while I wash dishes and fold laundry and resting and eating, etc. My habit of TV-watching has come in handy this month with Dr.S. There's a lot of down time with him in the clinic and we often turn to the topic of TV shows. One of his regulars is "House," and we had a somewhate "educational" discussion of it today. Since TV is unabashedly a big part of my life, here's a list of some shows I'm a big fan of these days:
1. Kings and Queens (TV couples don't get funnier than these two!)
2. Gilmore Girls (love their witty fast talks)
3. America's Next Top Model (fashionistas and Tyra!)
4. Grey's Anatomy (getting a little less appealing, unfortunately)
5. Ugly Betty (she could be my best friend!)
6. Brothers and Sisters (makes me wants to have a lot of babies and make a BIG family)
7. Heros (hmm, mainly watch with hubby)
8. House (I could potentially get into this, maybe I'll rent the DVDs)

What Did You Say?
Had this conversation with hubby recently:
P: "Did you know that cats in the wild eat dirt to kill themselves when they get sick?"
L: "Eww, that's horrible! Don't tell me that!"
P: "Horrible, why is it horrible?! I think that's pretty smart of them."
L: "Smart?! I don't want to hear about cats dying. . ."
After a few confused rounds, I finally realized what hubby had actually said was, "Did you know that cats in the wild eat herbs to heal theselves when they get sick?"
Ha, ha, I thought that was funny.

Isn't It Ironic??
I was driving one day and saw a car with numerous bumper stickers. One of which said, "Guns Don't Kill People, Drivers With Cell Phones Do." I looked at the driver through the windows, and what was he doing??! Talking on a cell phone!!

Lexus Cars and KFC's Drumsticks
So, what do those two things have in common? Well, the signs of the times. And things that make me happy, or at least make my life better.
Lexus' new LS sedans have an auto-parallel park feature! As someone who somehow got her driver's license without mastering the art of parallel park, I'm so glad to hear cars now are equipped with the intelligence to do it for me! I've never paralled parked, but now I can in the future! Who knows, maybe hubby will even buy me Lexus one day!
So, now to KFC. Fried chicken is Paul's all-time favorite American food. There were months where he bought Poppey's fried chicken every Tuesday (their 89 cent special). I cringed at how unhealthy fried chicken is, though that didn't stop me from helping hubby out with the feast most of the time. To think, I never remember eating fried chicken before meeting Paul! KFC just announced that their fried food will be made with trans fat-free oil to be in total effect by April, 2007. They haven't figured out a recipe for the biscuits, though! Still, it's pretty good news!
Wooho for science and the future!
